"The Patient'' is a new limited series starring Steve Carell. The first two episodes will debut August 30 exclusively on Hulu, and new episodes will follow every Tuesday through October 25. 

The psychological thriller follows therapist Alan Strauss (Carell) who is held captive by one of his patients, Sam Fortner. Sam reveals to Alan that he is a serial killer and makes an unusual demand: Alan must find a way to suppress Sam's homicidal tendencies.

"The Patient" stars Steve Carell as Dr. Alan Strauss and Domhnall Gleeson ("Harry Potter") as the murderous Sam Fortner. The two are joined by Linda Emond, Laura Niemi, Andrew Leeds, and David Alan Grier. 

The show is created and executive produced by writers Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg ("The Americans"). Early reviews have been positive, and the series holds an "80% Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes as of August 29.

How to watch 'The Patient'

You can watch "The Patient" exclusively on Hulu. The series debuts on August 30 and new episodes will be released every Tuesday through October 25.  

Hulu's ad-supported plan costs $7 a month or $70 a year, but a price increase is coming in October. Hulu's ad-free plan is $13 a month and also allows users to download and watch their favorite shows offline. For $14 a month, subscribers can bundle ad-supported Hulu with Disney Plus and ESPN+.

The Hulu app is available on most mobile devices, media players, and smart TVs from major brands. Check the Hulu website to confirm your device is supported.

Can I watch 'The Patient' for free?

You can watch "The Patient" for free if you sign up for a Hulu trial. Hulu currently offers new subscribers one month of streaming for free. After the first month, Hulu with ads is $7 a month and Hulu without ads is $13 a month. 

To watch every episode of "The Patient" during your trial, you should wait to sign up until October.

"The Patient" is a limited series and will include a total of 10 episodes. The series finale is set to debut on October 25.

Many Steve Carell fans are excited to see the actor in another dramatic role, so "The Patient" is highly anticipated. Early reviews of the series are largely positive, and it currently holds an "80% Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 20 reviews from critics.
